With very little formal training and through his own diligence, Roger Archibald acquired and refined his exacting and detailed drawing skills. A ranching background honed his keen visual senses and provided hands-on familiarity of the muscular structure and overall physicality of the horses and cattle that he so skillfully renders in his drawings. He vividly creates scenes depicting the activities and hard work that are part and parcel of day-to-day ranching.
Using graphite on archival watercolor paper, Archibald is a perfectionist – authentically meticulous in preserving a way of life that is still very much alive today. His goal is to capture Cowboys and Cowgirls at work and at play and to share his vision with those who are in harmony with this widespread way of life.
